METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON COUNCIL AFL-CIO ENDORSES BRIAN SCHWALB FOR REELECTION AS D.C. ATTORNEY GENERAL

The Metropolitan Washington Council AFL-CIO Endorsement is Latest Show of Broad-Based Support for Schwalb’s Reelection Campaign

Washington, DC – The Metropolitan Washington Council has endorsed Brian Schwalb in his reelection bid for Attorney General of the District of Columbia. Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO has 150+ Affiliate unions representing more than 150,000 working people in Washington, DC and Maryland’s Montgomery, Prince George’s, Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties. Their affiliate unions represent workers in every industry, including accountants, educators, athletes, public sector workers, actors, electricians, plumbers, commercial office cleaners, transit operators, postal workers, and many more.

Samuel A. Epps, President of the Metropolitan Washington Council, stated, “In his first term as DC’s Attorney General, Brian Schwalb has prioritized the fight for workers’ rights through consistent and vigorous enforcement of the District’s labor laws. He holds violators accountable while leveling the playing field for employers and businesses that play by the rules. Through a series of major enforcement actions against companies who have illegally deprived workers of their earned wages and benefits, millions of dollars have been recovered across industries—including construction, gig economy, hospitality, restaurants, healthcare, security, and delivery services—for wage theft, worker misclassification, and labor violations, securing back pay. We proudly endorse Brian Schwalb for reelection as DC Attorney General and look forward to working alongside him during his second term.”

“I’m honored to have the support of the Metropolitan Washington Council and grateful for their continued partnership in standing up for working families across the District. Together, we can continue to hold employers who break the law accountable, and ensure that lawful businesses compete on a level playing field. I remain committed to ensuring that DC laws are enforced fairly, consistently and effectively, that every worker receives what they have earned, and that the law advances the ability of all DC residents to live and work with dignity and security.” said Schwalb.
